A space for you

'We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.'

Maya Angelou

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.

My name is Joanna Clarke-Jones and I'm a therapist

in north London, providing counselling

to adults in person, online and by phone

About me

Does life feel hard? Are you overwhelmed by anxiety, perhaps due to parenting or caring responsibilities or burnt out through work or study? Maybe you feel exhausted, depressed or lonely or perhaps it's hard to feel anything – you might be stuck in a rut and unable to break unhelpful patterns. I can help you achieve a better balance, feel calmer and more self-confident.

I’m a warm, compassionate integrative counsellor working online and by phone in Wood Green, north London and in person from bright, welcoming rooms in Islington, to provide a space for you to bring whatever is troubling you. I will support you to find what you need, heal the wounds of the past and feel more ease and self-acceptance. Contact me to find out more.

Perhaps you're a parent or carer struggling to keep your head above water. Do you feel like you’re not the person you were before? Counselling can help you find your voice, feel happier and more in control of your life.

I offer a warm, welcoming space for you to unpack your emotions and feel really listened to and understood. Having someone walk alongside you as you find new pathways through life is a powerful, healing experience.

I have worked as a therapist in charities supporting carers and at a women’s centre, as well as in private practice, with a diverse range of clients. I respect people's difference and unique experiences of life and abide by the BACP's ethical framework.

Parents and carers

Do you feel overwhelmed, yet from the outside it looks like you’ve got it all together? Maybe you’re anxious that you’re not good enough or fear that you’re a failure. You may feel guilty and wonder how everyone else seems to be coping just fine.

You might feel lonely and isolated and wonder what happened to your former self. Perhaps you fly off the handle easily and worry about the effect on your relationships. There’s no space for you any more, and you end up asking yourself ‘what’s wrong with me?’

I know how that feels.

A problem shared

Counselling can help you assert yourself and feel more confident, start living for yourself and stop trying to please everyone else.

Sharing your anxiety with me can lessen your load, help you break old patterns of behaviour and connect with yourself and others, improving your relationships.

Working together, we will challenge your critical thoughts so that you start to trust and accept yourself, feel happier and make better choices that will benefit you.

Taking time out for you can be a revelation.

How I can help

Having worked in the media, I’m fascinated by the stories people tell and want to open up a space to explore what lies beneath them.

My experience of recovering from a period of illness gave me insight into how to heal and put myself at the centre of my life. I know how transformative therapy was for me at this time, helping me work through my own issues from childhood and move on in my life.

This inspired me to go on to train as an integrative counsellor. I will work in tandem with you, using a range of approaches to help untangle your day-to-day problems and explore your personal history.

What next?

It may feel daunting or embarrassing to talk to a stranger, or you may not know where to start. But admitting you need help is a vital first step. I offer a free initial 20-minute consultation via Zoom or by phone for us to get a sense of how we might work together. Please contact me through this form or by telephone on 07480 067304 if you'd like to set one up. All inquiries are usually answered within 24 hours.

If you decide to go ahead we'll then schedule our first 50-minute session where I will find out more about your history and what you are hoping to get out of our sessions.

Fees & availability

I work on a weekly basis with clients offering 50-minute sessions either in person at a welcoming space near Angel in north London, or from my base in Wood Green, where I offer online sessions via Zoom or by phone at a mutually convenient time. My fees are:£65 for an online session/£75 in person. I also provide a limited number of spaces for those on low-income or for students.

Note that if you want to cancel an appointment I require 48 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment by bank transfer.
